A Thankful Gathering Of The "Pride"...

Hii Friends...

Thanks so much for stopping in to visit my little blog of scrappiness! Welcome as Just A Few Friends and I share our November "Thanksgiving" themed blog hop!! The "Pride"
has been so busy creating "Home Decor" goodies to inspire you to dress up your home for Thanksgiving! Please pounce along with all of us as we share our creations with you!

It seems as though we barely began this New Year of 2012 and here we are preparing to celebrate the holidays again. Where has this year gone??

When my children were younger we use to celebrate this day of Thanksgiving by first deciding did we want to eat like the Pilgrims or like the Indians. If we decided to eat like the Pilgrims then of course that meant dressing our table up and having the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. If we decided to eat like the Indians, which is what my children chose most often, then that meant that we created a beautiful patchwork quilt and on Thanksgiving we would spread it out on our living room floor and we would sit crossed legged on the floor on our beautiful creation. We would still enjoy most of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes but would also include some of the dishes of our Native American Indians. But one thing that we always did on Thanksgiving was go around to each person and ask what they were grateful for that year. This year I will be blessed to have two of my three children, and two of my five Grandchildren here with us to celebrate Thanksgiving. Because it has been 3 years since we have been able to celebrate Thanksgiving with our second child and her children we have decided that we would have both a Pilgrim Thanksgiving and an Indian Thanksgiving.

Here is a photo of the "Thanksgiving" Patchwork Quilt that I made.
When our celebration is over, I will be giving this quilt to Jaclyn and her family for their home. I didn't have the help of my children making this quilt this year, but I put every bit of my heart into it just for them.

Next I decided that I would make a little centerpiece to dress the Pilgrim table. I didn't want it to be too overdone as there is always so much food on the table. Here is a photo of my little "Fall Centerpiece" that will dress our table this year. It is just a cute vase I filled with leaves and then I added some sunflowers, which always remind me of Thanksgiving and fall,  and two very cute little scarecrows that I made with my daughters when they were young.
Along with this centerpiece I created a "Fall Leaf Candle" using a mason jar...some paper leaves, raffia, some Mod Podge and Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Spray. Here is a picture of the jar right after it was finished.
Here is a picture of it lit with the candle inside.
Here is a picture of it at night lighting the room...
And a picture of it with the centerpiece at night.
I hope that I have inspired you to create a treasure for your home for Thanksgiving.
My family has so very much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday. A year filled with many changes, for the better for all of us. We have each grown and evolved into better people simply by deciding to live a life of "Thanksgiving". Of being grateful for just what we have today. Having an attitude of gratitude. We have learned this year that if we put our faith in God and our trust in one another,  no matter what is happening in the world around us, our lives will be blessed so that we may be a blessing to others. I can't wait to share that blog post with all of you as we get closer to Thanksgiving...so keep your eye out for my next post. But until then please pounce along with me as all of the "Pride" shares their "Thanksgiving" creations with you. Next up is my hugely talented den brother RJ! Here is a link to his blog http://thriftycrafterdude.blogspot.com/ please go take a peek and show him some love.
In case you got lost here is a line up of all the "Pride" starting with our den Momma Elsa...

  3. Oh my goodness Bon!! Your tradition for Thanksgiving is awesome!!! The quilt is beautiful...that is ONE thing I have never EVER been had to the patience to do. Memories of holidays past with the kids stay in our minds and in our hearts don't they? I see my 2 girls, grown and with families of their own, and happy as I might be...Im still a lil sad that they are not my lil girls anymore. I am so thankful for them, for you...for my group of Just a few FRiends and for all the blessings god has granted me. Take care, have fun and God Bless!!!
    xoxo

    1. Mi Hermana...
YOU know and understand how truly sad these holidays make me!! All we have these days is our memories...and all the cute little things that they made for us when they were little. I miss them every day...but on the holidays that feeling is just multiplied. My oldest is over 2,000 miles away this year with 3 of my Grandchildren...it is going to be so very hard without them here. The others have to arrange their work schedules and their own family lives just so they can be here...it's insane. But...You are right...we both have so much to be thankful for. Gracias ... Te amo Elsa.

  6. Bon!!! sweetie, thank you for sharing your traditions and your projects! LOVE the mod podging on the jar....i wonder, would the heat of the candle harden the MP or does it make it feel a little sticky, just curious in case I make something like it! LOVE the look so much! I wish I could quilt, love your blanket! Huge Hugs hone, Jules:)

    1. Hii Jules...

I am so HAPPY that you loved my "Fall Leaves" Candle!!! It was so much fun to make, but a little messier than I expected lol Anyway...let's see if I can answer your question. You will be applying at least two coats of Mod Podge and letting it dry completely in between. As a final step and sealer finisher you can also use Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Spray. This is recommended because Mod Podge is not waterproof! But I promise you the Mod Podge hardens like stained glass. It does not get sticky when warm at all. I also would recommend that you use at least a quart size jar as a smaller jar becomes hotter faster, and use tea lights or a small votive candle. Because my Grandbabies are at an age where they want to touch and explore my husband and I bought flameless tea lights, they flicker like real ones and are all around safer for the holidays. In a quart sized jar you may want to have two or three. Just a share of course. I have had others ask about how I did that candle...maybe I should do a tutorial huh?? It would be my first?!?! But maybe. Thank you so much my paper sister for stoppin' by and leaving me such HUGE love...it's wonderful comments and interest like yours that keep me creating!! BIG GINORMOUS HUG for you...Bon =D
